Palma de Mallorca Fiesta and Public Holidays

Below are listed the local events, fiestas and public holidays that we are aware of. Most fiestas will normally take place on the same dates each year, however, the programme of events is often not finalised until a few days beforehand:

January 1 New Years Day - Public Holiday
  5 The arrival of the Three Kings and worship of the baby Jesus.
  6 Feast of The Epiphany - Public Holiday
  16-17 Fiesta of Sant Antoni Abat the patron saint of animals.
  11 - 20 Fiesta of Sant Sebastia, the patron saint of the city. During the celebrations, concerts are held in the squares of the old quarter of the city. There are bonfires and barbecues throughout the city.
March 1 Balearics Day - Public Holiday
Lent   The Carnival Fiestas begin on the Thursday before Lent (Dijous Llarder), and continue until Ash Wednesday (Dimecres de Cendra) with street parades and fancy-dress parties all over the island.
Easter   The festivities of Easter begin on Palm Sunday when palm and olive branches are blessed. During Holy Week there are processions every day in Palma. The biggest processions are held on Monday and Thursday. Angel Sunday is the Sunday after Easter. It is also known as Domingo del Angel. This festival is celebrated in the capital, Palma de Mallorca, with a procession, blessings and plenty of traditional food. It is one of the biggest fiestas of the year. In the 15th Century, it was known as the Festividad del Santo Custodio de Palma. During this festival hundreds of people walk from the town hall to the Castillo de Bellver, with musicians and people dressed as giants.
May 1 May Day - Public Holiday
June 23 Fiesta of Sant Joan in Palma de Mallorca. Huge bonfires and spectacular firework displays mark the beginning of Mallorca's series of summer fiestas.
August 15 Ascension Day - Public Holiday
September 8 Fiesta of Mare de Deu de la Salut in Palma de Mallorca. The night before the festival of Mare de Deu de la Salut, there is a huge procession takes on the streets accompanied by colorful floral offerings and local folk music. On the day of the fiesta, a solemn mass in honour of the Virgin Mary takes place in the church of Sant Miguel, where a large image of the Mother Mary is held. After that event, city celebrates non-stop music and folk dancing.
October 12 Fiesta Nacional de Espana - Public Holiday
    Fiesta of Santa Catalina Tomas is held on the third Saturday in October each year. The central event is the Cavalcade of the Beata, which is a colourful parade of floats which winds its way through the city streets accompanied by bands.
November 1 All Saints Day - Public Holiday
December 6 Constitution Day - Public Holiday
  8 Immaculate Conception - Public Holiday
  25 Christmas Day - Public Holiday
  26 St Stephen Day - Public Holiday
  31 Festa de l'Estendard commemorates the anniversary of the Christian conquest of the city by King Jaume I in 1229. There is a procession from the town hall which is then followed by a special Mass at the magnificent La Seu Cathedral.
