Markets in Tenerife provide the ideal place to purchase some original Canarian
products. In these picturesque, colourful and multi-ethnologic places you'll
find nearly everything, from basic food produce to the ultimate fashion trend,
all in a familiar relaxed atmosphere.
Every Saturday morning from around 9am, a colourful weekly flea market is held
on the streets around the Avenida Blas Perez González in Puerto de la Cruz.
There's usually around 140 stalls selling a mixture of new and second hand
goods, antiques, books, clothes, ornaments and other crafts. For those who
venture inside the mercado building itself, there is also a really good farmers
market on the first floor too.
Popular with tourists in Puerto de la Cruz, a small Sunday market is also held
close to the Hotel Botanico in the La Paz district of the resort.
A couple of words of advice, do not start to negotiate if you have no intention
of buying, but do not be afraid to say no and walk away if the prices do not
fall to a level that you are prepared to pay for an item. Common sense we know,
but still easy to forget.
