Markets in Menorca provide the ideal place to purchase some original Menorcan
products. In these picturesque, colourful and multi-ethnologic places you'll
find nearly everything, from basic food produce to the ultimate fashion trend,
all in a familiar relaxed atmosphere.
Most winter markets on the island are held in the morning, and summer ones in
the evening, but whenever you visit you'll need to get there early and be
prepared to haggle like a professional to secure the best bargains.
A couple of words of advice, do not start to negotiate if you have no intention
of buying, but do not be afraid to say no and walk away if the prices do not
fall to a level that you are prepared to pay for an item. Common sense we know,
but still easy to forget.
Every Tuesday morning from around 10:00 to 13:30 during February to May, a
street market is held on the Calle Nou in nearby Es Mercadal, offering a
selection of locally produced fruit, vegetables and crafts along with a
selection of other Menorcan products including flowers and clothes etc.
From June to September each year, with the increased numbers of visitors to the
island, this market then expands to cover both the Placa Pare Camps, Calle Nou
and Calle Major in the town, and changes to a Thursday evening market commencing
at around 19:00 to 22:00.
A further flea market is also held on the Placa Pare Camps, every Sunday morning
throughout the year from 10:00 to 13.30, offering for sale a selection of
locally made artisan crafts.
Along the coast from Arenal d'en Castell, in the fishing port of Fornells, a
winter Farmers market is held alternate Sundays from October to May from 10:00
to 14:00 along the Calle Major, and from June to September on a Monday evening
from around 19:00 to 23:00.
Also during the summer months, along the Calle del Mar de Fornells, every
Friday, Saturdays and Sunday evening a small number of stalls are set out along
the harbour side selling sweets, crafts, jewellery and souvenirs etc.
Finally, also in Fornells, a flea market is held every Wednesday morning from
June to September along the Calle de les Roques in the town.
