Markets in Mallorca provide the ideal place to purchase some original Mallorcan products. In these picturesque, colourful and multi-ethnologic places you'll find nearly everything, from basic food produce to the ultimate fashion trend, all in a familiar relaxed atmosphere.

Most markets on the island are held in the morning from around 8:00 to 13:00, so you'll need to get there early and be prepared to haggle like a professional to secure the best bargains.

A traditional Mallorcan street market is held every Saturday morning at the Placa del Pins in nearby Cala Ratjada. There's usually a good selection of locally produced fruit, vegetables and crafts on offer, along with a selection of other Mallorcan products including flowers and clothes etc.

The nearby town of Capdepera also hold a street market every Wednesday morning, however, since many of the same traders often appear at both events, the choice of goods for sale may be somewhat limited.

Capdepera Castle is also the venue of the annual Medieval Market, which takes place on the third weekend of May each year. This market commemorates the founding of Capdepera by King James II in 1300, and recreates how the town’s inhabitants would have lived in those days.

The whole town is decorated in medieval style and is filled with lights, colours, sounds and scents that transport visitors back to the Middle Ages. The towns people paint wooden shields with heraldry representing their last names and hang them in the windows and on the balconies of their homes, children make banners to decorate the city streets and coloured ribbons are hung on the streets where the market is located.

Different artisans from all over the island, as well as the Spanish mainland, can be found at the market including herbalists, blacksmiths, silversmiths, glass blowers, carpenters, jugglers, shoemakers, magicians, embroiderers, stonemasons, sculptors, cheese makers and ceramists, among many others.

These artisans will be demonstrating their trades every day during the market and visitors can purchase products made right there on the spot. And not only that, concerts, medieval arms exhibitions, giants, conferences, circus shows with comedy and fire, clowns, theatre and much more can also be enjoyed.

If you have access to a car, or fancy a half day organised excursion, the biggest and most famous weekly market on Mallorca is held every Thursday morning around the streets of Inca. Although also selling a wide selection of other goods, Inca market is most famous for its leather goods, so expect to find a wide selection of leather shoes, bags and jackets.
